This Directive affects both manufacturers and distributors of electrical and electronic equipment. RoHS requires that Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexacalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenysis, and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers no longer be used in manufacturing, as their use in production is dangerous human health, as is the eventual disposal of these products can be damaging to the environment.

These companies are compelled to collect waste and it in an ecological-friendly manner, either by ecological disposal or by refurbishment of the collected waste.
